Weekly Assignment: "Critters," 23 - 29 June 2008
« on: June 23, 2008, 09:05:07 AM »
Rebecca chose the topic for this week's assignment, which is "Critters."  The subject can be of any kind of "critter."  Your image should tell a story, convey meaning, or evoke an emotional response in the viewer.  "Behavioral" shots that illustrate a unique behavior are always more interesting.

When photographing animals, remember that the eyes are the most important element in the composition and therefore should be in focus.  A "catch light" in the eye will add life to the image.  Wait until the "critter" is positioned so that the light reflects off their eye, or use fill flash to create your own catch light.

Don't forget to use the techniques from other assignments (isolation, color, motion) to reinforce the message in the image.

Please post your submissions in the "Critters" album in the Weekly Assignment category of the Gallery by midnight (GMT - 07:00), 29 June 2008.  http://www.spiritofphotography.com/coppermine/thumbnails.php?album=90
NOTE:  It helps if you don't use the "save for web" option in Photoshop, since this removes the shooting data.  Use the "save as => JPEG" option instead.

By the way, Voting is now open for the "Motion" assignment until midnight (GMT - 07:00), 29 June 2008.  http://community.spiritofphotography.com/index.php?topic=102.msg253#msg253
