Gloriosa daisies This photo was shot on Saturday morning while we were out walking along the wash. It was fairly cloudy so not much diffusion was necessary. However, in keeping with the assignment requirements we pulled out a raw silk scarf and my faithful photography companion held it in place.

Tent caterpillars in actionIn contrast to all the gorgeous flowers and other objects of beauty submitted for this assignment, I thought this photo of the tent caterpillars' web might be of interest! I used the same diffusion technique that I described for the yucca image.

Spring in the desertSome of the Joshua Trees were blooming out at Red Rock Canyon today. The wind was crazy so this was a sturdy object to photograph. My diffusion technique was a left-over piece of textured plastic for the kitchen florescent lights and my partner in crime, Clay, who held it in place!

Dreaming of SpringI long for spring, so any flowers work for me. I think that seems to be the theme. I used my homemade screen. This picture even includes a tiny bug.

Johnny Jump upsFound one of my favorite flowers - johnny jump ups at Botanica and had great diffused light. When I have time I'll post of picture of what I used as a diffusion panel :-)

Madam LadybugI stopped along a country road to photograph tiny henbit blossoms for the assignment but this ladybug got in the way. They're little but thrive on attention -- and may bite you if you don't photograph them. I used a plastic panel (designed for a flourescent lamp fixture) to create an improptu light tent and wind break.

Blue Hyacinth "Hazy sun" diffused with a 1-stop Westcott diffusion panel. (Actually the sunlight was diffused enough for this shot that I probably didn't need the diffusion panel.)

Johny JumpupsTaken inside the butterfly enclosure at Botanica, where the fine white mesh of the dome roof provided a nice diffused light.
