GuardianKeith when you said “the transition in tones from dark to light that reveal the shapes and textures within the image” I thought of the architectural pieces that were found on buildings in an earlier time. These objects were usually made of one material and it was those tones from dark to light that helped us distinguish what the image was. This one was removed from a building that was to be razed and made its way to a museum.

Artist at WorkThis is a photo from Christmas, originally done in color and changed to black and white. I like the contrasts this technique allowed, including all of the lines.

Sunday morning walk along the washCaptured this photo as we were walking along the Pittman Wash this morning. I shot in monochrome and changed it to black and white in iPhoto; then did some cropping. I think I blew out some of the bushes but I kind of like the effect.
Looming_Storm_in_Color.jpg
Looming Storm in ColorThanks Keith, honestly this is from my archive, been very busy all week I didn't have time to take any pictures. Just want to share and participate in the homework somehow. Taken sometime summer-fall '09, one of those afternoons where we had severe thunderstorm warnings.

In this assignment i discovered that it suddenly seemed difficult to think black and white.
In my early days it was more difficult to take shots in color.
