Title: Possible group challenge
Post by: prairiedust on November 08, 2011, 08:45:45 AM
Wildshutter's new photo "Time to Change" is gorgeous and looks like inspiration for a group challenge - "Backlighting".  Back-lit subject reveal unsuspected detail, radiant light patterns, and color.  Whaddaya think?

That's an excellent idea Dave.  Do you mind posting that as an assignment topic in the weekly assignments board in the forum?  You can choose the timeframe for the assignment, and provide guidelines to the group.  I've given you full administrator privileges on the site so that you can do things like create albums in the gallery, post articles, etc.  I recognize that much of the site software isn't very intuitive, so if there is anything you need help with, please ask and I'll help as much as I can.

I've created a Backlighting album in the gallery, under the weekly assignments topic, and would encourage you to update the album with the dates of the assignment.

Lars was also kind enough to offer to help with the assignments, and so I have given him administrator privileges as well.  If anyone else would like to help with the assignments, please let me know and maybe we can figure out how involve more people in the presentation and feedback for the assignments.

Thank you!

Keith

Count me in, if you need the help guys.  Love the backlighting idea!

I was also thinking about some ideas for some challenges.  "Abstracting the everyday",  "Reflections and distortions", "Unusual points of view", "Character-driven portrait", to name a few.  But starting on the backlight challenge is cool.

I still have a lot to learn as I have noticed more and more lately.  I see something and I just can't get the camera to see it the same way.  Sounds a little silly, I bet.

Wonderful! I'll put the pieces together this evening.  Let's adopt a time line of now through Sunday, November 20th.

Thank you Michele.  I'll give you administrator privileges as well.  You really don't need admin privileges for most things on the site, but for some strange reason you need to be an administrator to start new albums in the gallery.  Once the Backlighting assignment is done, maybe we can move on to one of the topics you suggested.  (And Lars has a great topic waiting in the wings that Rebecca promised to help him with.)  We'll give this a try and adjust as we need to.

Thank you to everyone that has continued to contribute and make this site a wonderful, encouraging site for photographers.

P.S.

One consequence of making you administrators that I did not anticipate is that you may receive emails from the site requesting that you approve new memberships.  Please don't approve any new members.  Given all the potential problems with hackers and spammers, I go through several steps to validate that a new registration is for a "real" person before I approve that membership.  Sorry about the extra "spam" you might receive.  I'll keep trying to find a viable way to let others lead assignments for the group.

Hi guys, shall I take a stab at this week's assignment or is someone else already working on it?

:)  I was hoping you would do that.

Shall I give it another go?  Or does someone else have an idea they would like to try?

Your last assignment topic inspired quite a few amazing images.  Thank you!

Keith

(P.S.  I don't have any new assignments to post at this time.)

I particularly regret not having been able to participate in the "abstract in everyday" assignment. A great pity!
