Title: 35mm?
Post by: Chris on September 23, 2010, 01:25:30 PM
I was at Walmart the other day and saw a couple Canon Rebel K2 35mm on clearance for $99. It is a kit with 28-90mm lens. I considered buying one just for fun and nostalgia because it seemed to be a pretty good bargin. I know I wouldn't use it often because I've always been bad with film. I probably still have some in a box in the basement that has never been developed. lol I had looked at them a few years ago when they were quite a bit more expensive.

Would it be a fun toy or just a waste of money that could go toward a dslr and lens? idk. hopefully someone will buy them before I go to walmart again.   :D

The only film camera I would consider spending money on would be one of the "classics."  A film camera will be more of a curiosity than something that is useful.  I have a Nikormat that my father-in-law gave me.  It's a cool camera and I marvel at the engineering prowess it took to design the camera way back then; however, I never use it.  It's just too much hassle to buy and process film, and I can do better with digital.

I'd save your money for a dSLR or better lens.

I forgot to mention...
I was talking to my dad the other day. He said if I ever want to give film a try I could use his Olympus from the late 70's early 80's. He had it out recently, put some batteries in it and it still works great. I know he has several lenses for it, from wide to telephoto but not sure what. He has a flash for it too. I wish I could remember what model it is.

If it's one of the OM series it's a classic.

Just got off the phone with dad. He called tonight so I asked him. He thinks it's an OM 10 but will have to look to be sure. They're  in Mississippi tonight, were in New Orleans for a few days and I think they went to Chicago before that. Lots of miles but 2 years ago they drove to Alaska. I think he said they put 11,000 mies on the truck that month.

Thank you Jaime for the invitation. It is my dad that was in New Orleans though, not me. He's back in St. Louis tonight.
