Title: Perspective Control
Post by: girod on July 29, 2010, 06:04:52 PM
Hello Keith,

As a Master of Perspective Control and View Camera, you must already be drooling to have your hands on this Sinar p-slr.

I'm just wondering if one can use Nikkor prime lenses on it or only Sinar/Rovenstock lenses?

Hi Jaime,

It looks interesting, and I do miss the ability to easily apply movements (lens tilt and shift).  That said, attaching a 35mm body has some limitations, as talked about in this article:  http://www.outbackphoto.com/workflow/wf_48/essay.html (http://www.outbackphoto.com/workflow/wf_48/essay.html)

You could use Nikkor lenses, but the image circle (or quality on the periphery of the image circle) wouldn't be big enough to allow movements, so you negate the point of the p-slr.

You can buy adapters that enable you to use medium format lenses, or lenses from other manufacturers; however, the digital Sinar/Rodenstock lenses provide much higher quality, so again I don't think it would be worth buying the p-slr unless you intended to use the digital lenses.

If I were to invest in a system like this, I would probably pair it up with a medium format back, but I can't justify that cost for what I do with my photography.  I suspect the 24mm PC and 45mm PC lenses would be a more cost effective solution that would meet the needs of 95% of photographers.  It's nice to dream though....

Yup, "it's nice to dream"....and it's free........I'm a frustrated architect, hence I kind of love perspective........

For now, I should find more time to shoot........."capture for optimal data" (as per Thom Hogan)......and learn postprocessing better (now with CNX2, later with PS CS5).......and yes, calibrate my monitors.

Thanks Keith.
