The assignment for the week of 29 November - 5 December 2010 is "Contre-Jour."  Roughly translated, "contre-jour" means "against the light" and encompases a photographic style of shooting into the light to produce high contrast, dynamic, and somewhat impressionistic images of your subject.  Although we would typically avoid blowing out the sky (or any of the highlights) in our images, some subjects or scenes lend themselves to the contre-jour style.  It often works best to render this style of image in monochrome, which our minds seem to accept more readily than the "whacked out" (to use Chris' term :) ) colors that can be caused by overexposing parts of the scene.

We're at the ranch for the holiday, so for this week's example you get another ranch scene:

Old Faithful
Classic (and still working) Ford Jubilee tractor in the old barn

Please upload your images to the "Contre-Jour" album in the weekly assignments category of the album no-later-than midnight Mountain Time (GMT -07:00) on Sunday, 5 December 2010.

I'll look forward to seeing your images.

Keith
